The autoregressive slope coefficient, often denoted as ρ (rho), is a parameter used in autoregressive models, such as AR (AutoRegressive) models or ARIMA (AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average) models. It represents the strength and direction of the relationship between a variable and its past values.
In the context of an AR(p) model, where "p" represents the order of the autoregressive model, the autoregressive slope coefficient ρ quantifies how much the current value of a variable depends on its previous p values. It measures the linear dependence of a variable on its own past values.
For example, in a simple first-order AR(1) model, the equation might be written as:
\[ X_t = \rho; * X_(t-1) + \epsilon;_t\]
Here, X_t represents the current value of the variable, X_(t-1) represents its previous value, ρ is the autoregressive slope coefficient, and ε_t is a white noise error term. The value of ρ determines the strength and direction of the relationship between X_t and X_(t-1).
In more complex AR models like AR(p), there are p lag terms, and each has its own autoregressive slope coefficient, representing different time lags of dependence.
