Deep work - my resolution in 2021

Retrospective

It's already the moment for us to remember what we have been doing last year and what we have learned. I believe most of us already experience a lot of dramatic changes in our lives. Start from in March that we are forced to work remotely. And then move to June and July that we experience all the effect of working remotely. And many other things.

Introduction

This moment also a great moment to learn what we have learned and how we want to change them in 2021. The great thing that I have learned lately is related to Deep work. How the skill that most every one of us doesn't have and getting very rare lately. My motivation to write them in my blog here is to remember them. And let myself and the idea still relevant with what is going on in our live day by day.

Most of us are doing shallow work. Most of the time and it's very true. Shallow work here means something that easy to be replicated by anyone else. And we are basically doing that stuff. For example, we are busy replying to emails most of the time. Opening Instagram. Create a status on Facebook and also Twitter. And then we just do a work that even robot can replace us. We stop to go deep in our work. We do not really focus on and interested in one small thing. We are really left behind by the motivation for example from small kids that they are so interested to know about things.

It's not totally our fault, well we always try to find the culprit right. But it's actually our fault. We are weak in focus. And we are so easy to be distracted.

Even when I am typing this blog, the number of distractions is always coming and try to stop me to write.

Like now instead of writing in a paragraph, I would rather type inline.

Antithesis

But then the question, how to do deep work. It is almost impossible for most of us. There is one story from 100 years ago,  where the fellow of Sigmund Freud, name Carl Jung created a Bollingen Tower. A tower that he created during summer for him to work deep on his article.

Bollingen Tower

The tower was created to help him concentrate. And as the impact, he could finish his magnum opus that lately is considered as one of the greatest books after Sigmund Freud's book.

There is also a knowledge that mentions if we want to be good in one thing and finally focuses on the thing, it means we are mostly focused on making our myelin better. Myelin is part of our neuron system, that isolates a neuron to burn fast and more effectively. It creates a web in our neurons to work better. And when we focus, the myelin is getting thicker. Or we can call them also Myelinated.

Resolution

So in 2021, I would like to go on deep work. I will try to not do too much multitasking, mute myself for a while from a distraction.

Conclusion

There is no conclusion in such a matter.
